Taliban chief asks forces to not punish former government officials
KABUL: (AIP): Taliban chief Sheikh Hibatullah Akhundzada held another meeting with the officials of Kandahar province on Wednesday (December 39). He issued necessary directives to them.
“Respect my decree of forgiveness. Do not punish the workers of previous government for their past sins,” he said.
According to some media reports, Taliban killed dozens of security personnel over the past few months despite the decree of forgiveness.
Videos on social media showed that the Taliban forces and officials tortured and insulted the workers and military personnel of the former government.
Taliban rejected the reports of torturing the former military personnel. However, they ordered investigation into the matter.
Taliban chief said in the meeting that every citizen of the country was respectable. The Afghan people were not respected in other countries. He asked the Afghan citizens to not go out of the country and stay in Afghanistan. He asked the officials, clerics, tribal elders, governors and district chief to convince such people.
He asked the officials to fulfill the hopes of Afghan people and ensure the protection of their peace and dignity.
“Do not wish responsibility. If a leader gives you responsibility, obey him and full the responsibility,” he added.
Asking the officials to not torture the citizens, he asked them to treat the public as per the capacity.
Sheikh Hibatullah met the officials and religious clerics of Kandahar in the past. However, his pictures or videos have not been shared with media so far. Taliban stressed that he would appear publicly at a proper time.
