KABUL (AIP): The United States has announced that they will begin talks with Taliban in Doha, Qatar, next week.
The US State Department spokesperson Ned Price said on Tuesday that US Special Representative for Afghanistan will visit Doha next week for two weeks of meetings with leaders of the Taliban.
"They’ll discuss ... our vital national interests when it comes to Afghanistan," said Price. "That includes counterterrorism, that includes safe passage for US citizens and for Afghans to whom we have a special commitment and that includes humanitarian assistance and the economic situation of the country.”
It is to be mentioned here that the US recently designated three key Islamic State-Khorasan members as global terrorists and imposed sanction on them.
A US delegation led by US envoy, Tom West, had also met with senior Taliban representatives in Doha. The key Taliban demand is the release of Afghanistan’s assets freed by the US and recognition of the Taliban government.
West, however, had said the US will not recognize the Taliban government even if Russia or China recognizes it.
The US freezed near $10 billion assets of Afghanistan after the Taliban came into power which has created huge economic problems in the Afghanistan. Ends
