HERAT (AIP):  The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) which has been providing assistance to those in need in Afghanistan for years, is expanding its health initiatives by funding a free eye treatment program for thousands of patients in Herat, with the technical collaboration with Al-Basar International Foundation.
The health project, titled "Noor Saudi Arabia" free volunteer program, aims to combat blindness and its causes. It commenced today (May 17) and will continue until Tuesday.
The program is financially supported by the KSrelief, implemented under the auspices of the Afghan Red Crescent Society, and technically assisted by doctors from Al-Basar International Foundation.
Rizwan Ahmed Baloch, an official of Al-Basar Charity Foundation, told the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) that the program will provide treatment to 4,000 eye patients in Herat, distribute medicine and eyeglasses, and perform surgical operations on four hundred (400) patients.
Baloch added that the program is funded by the KSrelief, with doctors brought in from Pakistan, and all services are provided free of charge.
Patients from other provinces in the western region can also seek treatment at this center.
Following the Herat program, it is planned to implement a similar initiative in Mazar-e-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province.
It is worth noting that a similar program was conducted in Kabul by the KSrelief and Al-Basar Foundation in November of last year, where over 4000 patients were treated, and hundreds of surgical operations were performed.
Prior to that, Al-Basar Charity Foundation, in collaboration with the King Salman Relief Center, had sent its medical teams to Kabul and other provinces of the country several times to treat patients with eye diseases.  Ends
